Advance Landscape Systems recently completed a specialist pond liner project for a rural property in Onekaka, Tasman, delivering a custom-fabricated polypropylene geomembrane solution that offered both functionality and efficiency.
The client, a local farmer, required a dual-purpose water retention pond for on-site irrigation and overflow management. The pond was uniquely T-shaped, with a shallower base section designed to handle overflow and direct it into a deeper, 4-metre primary retention zone. Given the site’s remote location and the complex shape of the pond, the challenge was to design a liner that would ensure long-term durability while being simple to install with minimal labour.
Using smart fabrication technology, the Advance team developed a custom geomembrane liner to fit the exact dimensions and contours of the T-shaped pond. The liner was produced as a single-piece unit, eliminating the need for on-site welding or seaming, which not only significantly reduced install time but also removed the need for specialist tools or skilled liner technicians.
Made from high-quality, UV-stabilised and flexible polypropylene, the geomembrane liner offered exceptional strength and puncture resistance while remaining pliable enough to mould smoothly into corners, slopes and contours. The result was a seamless, wrinkle-minimised fit that was easily backfilled to deliver a tidy, secure, and professional finish.
Advance Landscape Systems was also able to coordinate direct-to-site delivery and assist the client with off-lifting the liner into position. From there, the client’s contractor managed the entire installation without complication. The simplified installation process translated into major cost savings, with no need for additional personnel, welding equipment or delay due to poor weather.
With the project completed ahead of the winter rainfall, the client was extremely satisfied to have a fully functioning, high-integrity retention pond in place before the seasonal shift. This project highlights the value of using pre-fabricated pond liners for rural and remote locations, especially when dealing with custom pond geometries and installation constraints.
At Advance Landscape Systems, we pride ourselves on providing tailored solutions that not only perform but also simplify the installation process for our clients. Whether you’re planning a large-scale farm pond or a more compact landscape water feature, our experienced team can help design a custom-fit liner solution that saves time, labour, and cost.
