Archipello. Architectural Corten Steel Landscape Elements for New Zealand

Bringing Architectural Landscape Elements to New Zealand: The Story Behind Archipello.

Raising the Standard for Landscape Architecture

When we began developing the Archipello. range, the goal wasn’t simply to introduce more landscape products to the New Zealand market. It was about raising the standard of architectural landscape elements available to designers, landscape architects and contractors.

Over the past decade, the landscape industry has undergone a clear shift. Outdoor environments are increasingly designed as extensions of architecture. Courtyards, gardens, rooftops and public spaces are now conceived with the same design intent as the buildings around them.

Yet many of the products used to construct these spaces remain purely functional. Planters, edging systems and retaining walls are often treated as practical necessities rather than considered design elements.

That gap is what led Advance Landscape Systems to bring Archipello. to New Zealand.

A European Approach to Architectural Landscape Design

After exploring manufacturers internationally, Advance Landscape Systems partnered with leading European producers to curate the Archipello. collection.

The range includes:

  • Architectural Corten steel planters
  • Precision landscape edging systems
  • Modular retaining wall elements
  • Custom landscape steel features

Each product is designed with architectural precision and manufactured to deliver long-term durability, structural integrity and sculptural form.

“Our aim with Archipello. has always been simple,” says Greg Suckling, General Manager of Advance Landscape Systems.

“To give landscape architects and designers elements that match the intent of their projects. Outdoor spaces deserve the same level of design integrity as the architecture around them.”

By working directly with European manufacturers, Advance Landscape Systems ensures New Zealand designers have access to high-specification landscape elements commonly used in international architectural projects.

Why Corten Steel is Ideal for Landscape Architecture

A defining feature of the Archipello. collection is the use of Corten steel, also known as weathering steel. Corten steel is widely used in architectural landscapes because it combines strength, durability and distinctive appearance.

Archipello. Corten steel elements are manufactured from S355J0WP+AR (EN10025-5) weathering steel, a European-grade material known for its structural performance and longevity.

When exposed to the environment, Corten steel develops a natural protective patina that:

  • Protects the steel from corrosion
  • Eliminates the need for painting or coating
  • Creates the distinctive warm, rust-toned finish widely used in contemporary landscape design

All Archipello. Corten steel elements carry European certification EN10204-3.1 and CE / Declaration of Performance, ensuring full material traceability and compliance with strict manufacturing standards.

For structural applications, retaining wall systems can be custom designed with steel thickness up to 15mm, allowing them to perform in demanding landscape and urban environments.

Ongoing Development of the Archipello. Range

Archipello. is not a static product collection.

Advance Landscape Systems continues to refine and expand the range in collaboration with European manufacturing partners.

Recently, Greg Suckling and Robert Bruce, Sales Representative at Advance Landscape Systems, travelled to Europe to meet directly with Archipello. manufacturing partners.

The visit focused on:

  • Reviewing new manufacturing innovations
  • Exploring additional architectural landscape elements
  • Strengthening long-term production partnerships
  • Preparing for the next Archipello. elements release

As New Zealand’s exclusive provider of Archipello., Advance Landscape Systems maintains strict material and production standards across the entire range.

Maintaining those standards is non-negotiable.

A Collection Designed for the Future of Landscape Architecture

For landscape architects, designers and design-led homeowners across New Zealand, the evolution of Archipello. reflects a broader shift in landscape design. Outdoor environments are no longer secondary to buildings. They are integral to the overall architectural composition.

Archipello. is designed to support that shift, offering architectural landscape elements that combine sculptural form, structural integrity and long-term durability. Because outdoor environments deserve the same level of design integrity as architecture.
