Project Overview
The Dunns Crossing Roundabout project forms part of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s SH1 Rolleston Access Improvements programme. The new roundabout has been designed to improve safety and traffic flow at the SH1 and Dunns Crossing Road intersection while supporting Rolleston’s continued residential and industrial growth. Alongside the transport improvements, extensive landscaping was undertaken to create an attractive gateway into the area and establish long-term streetscape planting.

The Goal
To deliver a safe, functional and visually appealing transport corridor, incorporating robust landscape planting capable of thriving in a highly exposed roadside environment.
The Challenge
The project required the installation of large 160L specimen trees in an open, wind-exposed location. These mature trees needed a strong staking system that would provide reliable support during establishment and withstand challenging site conditions.
The Solution
Advance Landscape Systems supplied Round 75mm Timber Stakes and tree ties to securely anchor the large specimen trees. Four stakes were installed per tree, providing the strength and stability required to support the 160L trees while their root systems became established. Their robust construction made them well suited to the demanding roadside environment and helped ensure the long-term success of the landscape installation.
Performance and Outcomes
The Round 75mm Timber Stakes provided a durable and dependable support system for the large specimen trees during the critical establishment period. By securely anchoring each 160L tree with a four-stake configuration, the installation was able to withstand the exposed roadside conditions while encouraging healthy root establishment. The robust support system helped protect the landscape investment and contributed to the successful delivery of a high-quality streetscape.
