Natural fibre geotextiles for weed suppression, erosion control, moisture retention, and plant establishment.
FuturFiber® made by Rubisco® is a New Zealand-made natural fibre geotextile range using locally sourced hemp and wool for weed suppression, erosion control, planting stabilisation, moisture retention, and plant establishment. The range is 100% biodegradable, BioGro Certified for organic inputs, and supported by a Global GreenTag EPD compliant to ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
FuturFiber® is Advance Landscape Systems’ premium range of natural fibre geotextiles, designed for landscape, civil, revegetation, and ecological restoration projects. FuturFiber offers a 100% biodegradable alternative to synthetic weed matting and erosion control materials, helping reduce microplastic risk while supporting healthier soil and stronger early plant growth.
With hemp and dag wool products innovatively designed for use across commercial and residential applications, these 100% biodegradable options for weed suppression and erosion control also provide moisture retention, temperature moderation and nutrient release benefits to plants throughout their establishment stage.
BioGro Certified for organic inputs and supported by a Global GreenTag Environmental Product Declaration, FuturFiber gives specifiers, contractors, councils, and project teams credible third-party environmental documentation alongside practical on-site performance.

FuturFiber natural fibre geotextiles are developed for projects where both performance and environmental outcomes matter. The range supports weed suppression, erosion control, planting stabilisation, moisture retention, and soil temperature moderation across commercial and residential landscapes, revegetation works, transport corridors, riparian margins, and public green spaces.
FuturFiber is backed by third-party environmental certification and published product data. The range is BioGro Certified for organic inputs, and Rubisco wool and hemp geotextile holds a Global GreenTag EPD compliant to ISO 14025 and EN 15804.
FuturFiber hemp and wool geotextiles are designed to biodegrade over time, supporting projects that want to avoid plastic residue and microplastics in the landscape. The range is 100% biodegradable, with an approximate breakdown period of 18 to 24 months under typical field conditions.
The EPD verifies FuturFiber has low VOCs and notes no plastics, glues, or formaldehydes in the assessed wool-hemp geotextile.
FuturFiber wool and hemp geotextile is listed with measured water permeability of 111 L/m²/s, and has been tested for resistance to tearing, puncture, and bursting.
FuturFiber hemp and dag wool are sourced locally from New Zealand farmers.
FuturFiber geotextiles support weed suppression, moisture control, nutrient release, and healthy plant establishment.
FuturFiber is suited to a wide range of applications across landscape, horticultural, civil, and ecological projects, including:
erosion control matting
weed suppression blankets
planting stabilisation
revegetation and land rehabilitation
slope and embankment protection
riparian margins and restoration planting
urban greening and public landscape planting
roadside and infrastructure planting interfaces
This makes FuturFiber a strong choice for landscape architects, civil engineers, designers, councils, contractors, and restoration teams seeking a biodegradable geotextile with documented environmental credentials.
FuturFiber Hemp geotextiles are BioGro certified and Global GreenTag EPD certified. This geotextile harnesses the strength and absorbency of hemp fibre to help manage weeds, retain moisture, and support plant growth. Hemp is one of the strongest natural fibres used in the range, offering durability while remaining fully biodegradable.
FuturFiber Dag Wool geotextiles are made from BioGro Certified and Global GreenTag EPD certified dag wool and are designed for weed suppression, soil conservation, and planting support. Dag wool rolls are suitable for projects where soil conservation and weed suppression are required.
FuturFiber made by Rubisco is supported by product resources for specifiers and project teams, including specification sheets, brochures, installation guides, and case studies. Advance consultants are available to support landscape architects, designers, civil engineers, and contractors with tailored recommendations for project requirements.
For teams seeking natural fibre geotextiles with transparent environmental reporting, the EPD provides independently published lifecycle information for Rubisco Wool and Hemp Geotextile, including New Zealand scope, cradle-to-grave declaration type, and manufacturing data drawn from New Zealand operations.

FuturFiber® has been specified in New Zealand landscape and public realm projects published by Advance Landscape Systems. One featured case study is Basque Park, Mt Eden, Auckland, where FuturFiber Hemp 600gsm natural fibre geotextile was used as part of the park landscaping following major infrastructure works associated with the City Rail Link project. FuturFiber Hemp was specified for erosion control and weed suppression within the landscape design.
Faringdon Pump Track, Rolleston and the SH51 Awatoto Roundabout Project are case studies using natural fibre geotextile project materials from Advance Landscape Systems.
FuturFiber made by Rubisco brings together natural fibre innovation, local supply, and verified environmental reporting. Advance partnered with Rubisco to develop the FuturFiber hemp and wool range as an economical, sustainable, and effective solution for erosion control, weed suppression, and plant establishment support, using Rubisco’s locally sourced hemp and dag wool fibre.
This positioning is reinforced by the Global GreenTag listing, which describes the wool-hemp geotextile as made in New Zealand from local hemp and wool, intended for soil stabilisation and erosion control.

Developed through more than two years of testing and product validation, FuturFiber® is now the first natural fibre erosion control and weed suppression matting product in New Zealand to hold a GreenTag EPD.
“Achieving New Zealand’s first Global GreenTag EPD for our hemp–wool geotextiles is more than a milestone—it shows that regenerative natural fibres can deliver world-class performance and sustainability across infrastructure, horticulture, landscaping, and beyond. At Rubisco, we see this as part of a broader shift: moving global industries towards materials that restore ecosystems while building a better future.”
– Guy Wills, CEO Rubisco.
With a negative carbon footprint, FuturFiber® Hemp sequesters more than it emits, locking away -1.4 kg of CO₂ during production. At end-of-life, it safely biodegrades, returning nutrients to the soil and closing the loop in the natural cycle. See the EPD Certificate for FuturFiber® for more details of its Life Cycle Analysis.
FuturFiber® Hemp and Dag Wool, and EcoWool are sourced locally from New Zealand South Island farmers.
Made from South Island hemp cultivated and processed within Rubisco’s vertically integrated hemp fibre platform, blended with New Zealand strong wool, the needle-punched nonwoven geotextiles provide strength, permeability, and soil stability without the use of microplastics.
We recommend using Ground Staples, Greenstake Pins or BioPins to fix the matting in place. See staple and pin options here.
